Website updates

Well folks, this July will be ten years that fieldcomm.org has been active.  We know that it has had varying degrees of activity, depending on how active most of the readers are in the hobby.  I’ve been busy with life and really haven’t had an interest in keeping the site up.

When we started the site, it really was to be an information page about the shack, and then a place for us to gather and talk about our hobby. It has evolved into a mixture of information about various aspects of radio that we all enjoy, info on the shack, repeaters, beacons and other projects we have dealt with in the last decade.  I never intended it to be a big high volume website that made money or served as a regional or national resource, but at times it has done all of that (except make money).

If you do choose to use the site, please keep it related to hobby / RF / communications related content.  Post stories, videos, pictures as submission for the main page and start discussions in the forums.

So with these thoughts in mind, if we don’t actually start using the site again I may pull the plug on it all together later in the summer.  It seems like most of us are in the same rut that I am in, with no interest in the site and minimal interest in the hobby.   I didn’t want it to be a big surprise to anyone.  It’ll save me some cash and perhaps allow some to refocus on the hobby.

Do what you have to do. It’d be a shame for the site to go down, but between the few who comment here and virtually no contributions of interest it may be in your best interest financially speaking. Most people have migrated over to Facebook or Twitter versus web sites. Thanks for keeping it up, and the site too.

With all the changes coming, let the local community know what direction you are headed in….

  3. I fully understand your position and will support your decision, Jay. I would hate to see FieldComm website go away but it has been kinda quiet lately.

I came by to see if y’all were doing anything for Field Day. Guess I know now. And I still have a couple of boxes of batwing items for you.

    Stay in touch.
