Remembering ten years ago

As everyone deals with their own personal and professional memories of the event that changed our nation, communications and interoperability forever, Jason sent along this picture from the Clearwater (FL) Fire Training Facility.  This is the text printout of the 5th alarm notification for FDNY Box 8087 – #1 World Trade Center.  This text printout is displayed prominently in part of the training facility known as the 9/11 room.  As we continue to grow as a nation and individuals, remain ever vigilant and prepared.

Being somewhat of a packrat, I also have newspapers from the days immediately following the attacks, including all of the local paper’s front pages for those first few days. They are too big to scan, but I can upload photos of them, if anyone would be interested–just let me know. It includes an “Extra” edition printed on the afternoon of 9/11–one of only two times that they’ve printed an Extra in my time here (the other being the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003, which I also kept.). I also threw tapes in the VCR, and rolled tape on various news coverage that day. Unfortunately, I currently lack a working VHS deck to view them with. At that point, I was just gathering whatever information I could get my hands on for the archives. I knew we were witnessing a very significant (and painful) part of history unfolding.
